Giglio and Giannutri

Two pearls of the Tuscan Archipelago, two gems to discover.

Argentario is, in practice, the gateway to the Tuscan archipelago, especially to the two islands to the south, Giglio and Giannutri.
15 km to the west of Argentario we have the island of Giglio, the second largest of the archipelago. The island is characterised by its mainly granitic ground and by the typical Mediterranean vegetation, in part formed by man with terracing to allow cultivation of vines and olive trees. In relation to this, try tasting the prestigious Ansonaco wine.
The coast, high and steep, is also generally jagged and interspersed with many rocks and a few bays: on the east side, the coves of Porto, of Arenella and Cannelle, to the west the long and wide beach of Campese. The beauty of the landscape, the mild climate and the emerald waters are a must-see for lovers of the sea in all its aspects.
There are three inhabited areas. Giglio Porto is the first that you can visit arriving by ferry. From there, thanks to a narrow and very winding road, you reach Giglio Castello, beautiful fortified town with medieval walls and dominated by the Rocca fortress. On the west side, the heart of Campese.
Giannutri is the southern most island, 18 km to the south-south-west of Porto Ercole and 14km south of Giglio. Its half-moon shape is typical as is its nature and its wild and rocky terrain. There are no human settlements, only tourist residences that are frequented in summer. There are two landings located in the larger coves: Spalmatoio cove is the main mooring point and the other is Maestra cove where the only beach of the island is located. In the immediate vicinity there are also the remains of a Roman villa from the II century B.C.
